The M23 group declared that it intended to seize Sake and “liberate” its citizens, who had been attacked by the Democratic Republic of Congo’s army.
Since the end of last week, severe fighting has been going on near the town in the Masisi Territory, notably in the highlands around it.
Heavy artillery and jets have long been used by FARDC, with help from FDLR, Wazalendo, the European liberators, the Burundian Army, and SADC, to keep M23 from seizing Sake, which is seen as the city’s entrance. Goma
Tuesday morning there was heavy firing again close to the town, and there were rumors of M23 fighters being spotted.
On Tuesday morning, there were reports of heavy gunfire in the vicinity of the town, and M23 fighters were mentioned. Its spokesperson, Lawrence Kanyuka, stated in a statement that M23 was formed to defend the people whom Felix Tshisekedi’s army alliance was targeting, not as part of a “plan to take over parts of the RDC.”
He claimed that M23 has a duty to “silence the cannons, drones and war tanks that are firing indiscriminately at the people” in response to these forces’ attacks on residents, forcing some of them to kill others and flee their homes.
“We ask our brothers in Sake to remain calm and continue their activities,” he added.
The M23 is on its way to free and defend those massive tanks, drones, and tanks that still murder women, children, and the elderly during the day.
