President Kagame attending the AU Summit in Addis Ababa

For the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union, President Paul Kagame has traveled to Addis Ababa to join other heads of state and government from throughout the continent.

As the head of the AU Institutional changes ordered by the Heads of State and Government of the Union, President Kagame will give an update on the status of the changes inside the African Union. The redesigned Peace Fund today has about $400 million in assets, and member state contributions have been mainly met in the eight years since the reforms began.

Following a global summit on transforming education called by the UN Secretary-General in September 2022, this year’s AU Summit will address education, which is the AU theme for the year 2024.

The urgency is due to the worldwide education crisis and the fact that Africa is having a difficult time attaining Sustainable Development Goal 4, which is the reason for the slow progress toward the goal. With an emphasis on lowering the number of children who are not in school and raising literacy rates, this overview of the African education system shows efforts and advancements made to guarantee access, completion, and quality of education.
