DRC: M23 charges FARDC of using SUKHOI-25 to murder civilians’ cattle

The bombing of a herd of cows this Saturday in the Masisi territory of Kilorirwe is condemned by the March 23 Movement.

In a statement released on Sunday, Major Willy Ngoma, the military spokesperson for the M23, expressed concern for the indiscriminate bombing of the FARDC on Kilorirwe by the air fleet and heavy artillery—bombs that solely target the civilian population and their property.

The M23 reiterates its resolve to properly defend itself and to adequately protect the populace in all localities within its jurisdiction, even in light of the well-known errors committed by the FARDC.

Major Willy Ngoma’s statement comes after another news release from the Movement that was shared on social media and stated that 12 cows were slaughtered on Saturday as a result of the FARDC Sukoi-25 plane being bombed.

The M23 has been in control of Kilorirwe for more than two weeks, and the Congolese army has been using its air fleet to dump bombs on the area after driving out the FARDC, the Burundian military, the Wazalendo alliance, and the FDLR.

But the FARDC isn’t backing down; it keeps conducting pointless airstrikes there, and the M23 recently shot down a surveillance drone while it was in the air. It is a strategically important site that the enemy shouldn’t be able to take.
