On Thursday, Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan, twin Egyptians, were introduced as the new team director and head coach, respectively.
Following a dismal campaign in the African Cup of Nations, where the squad was defeated by DR Congo in the Round of 16, Portuguese coach Hossam Hassan took over for Rui Vitoria.
Throughout the tournament, which was hosted by Ivory Coast, the seven-time African champions were unable to record a single victory.
With 68 goals to his credit, Hassan leads Egypt’s all-time goal scorer record. He has helped the Pharaohs win three AFCON titles.
Hossam Hassan coached the national team of Jordan as well as teams in Egypt. The 57-year-old was the tactician at Modern Future FC, a first division squad, prior to being appointed Egypt’s coach.
In addition, he managed teams at Zamalek, Pyramids FC, Ismaily, and Masry.
March’s international friendly matchup with New Zealand will mark his first test as head coach.
