Tuesday, April 16, in the military courts in Goma, magistrate Colonel Kabeya-Hanu-Ben, the first president of the military court of North Kivu, issued a warning over the roving behavior of soldiers in this city during a judicial parade.
The soldiers under Magistrate Colonel Kabeya’s command were urged to adhere to national laws and maintain discipline.
This officer cautioned other military justice authorities that any soldier who wanders around without mission orders, carrying weapons, and wearing a FARDC uniform and gets caught by the military police will face harsh punishment and the full force of the law.
“You will be severely punished when you are in front of us if you abandon your post and go walking around with weapons and clothing without authorization. If the patrol officers find you, they will arrest you whether it is day or night.”
He said military justice will deal with soldiers who are out of control and endanger the public.
The past few weeks have seen an increase in instability in both the Goma city and the nearby Nyiragongo area, which is mostly marked by murders, thefts, and kidnappings.
In the city of Goma, almost ten individuals were shot and killed in less than a week.
