Rwanda: 2.1 billion RWF were spent illegally in 2022/2023

This was revealed by Auditor general during his presentation to members of parliament this Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

This was found out when they were checking the use of the country’s finances and resources in 2022 /2023.

Kamuhire Alexis, the Auditor General, pointed out that in the previous year, 2021/2022, 6 billion and 850 Million were spent illegally in total, and by 202/2023 the number decreased to 2 billion and 100 million Rwandan Francs.

This amount of money was spent on unnecessary contracts which have been stopped without reaching their ends.

“It was discovered in 12 institutions, including Water And Sanitation Corporation Group (WASAC), Rwanda Energy Group(REG), University of Rwanda(UR), Muhanga District, Rwanda TVET Board(RTB), Rwa Housing Authority (RHA), Project from Ministry of Education, Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Commission” Auditor General Said.

He didn’t detail the amount of money spent by each institution.
