The Catholic Bishop of the Lafia Diocese, Most Rev. David Ajang, has urged the Federal Government to act immediately to address hunger and the security issues the country is now facing.
At a Thanksgiving Mass hosted by Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Doma on Sunday, Ajang made the announcement.
According to the cleric, alleviating hunger and insecurity would not only advance peace but also greatly raise Nigerians’ level of living.
“We are living in a crucial moment where hunger and security are the two main issues.
“I believe that action is necessary,” he declared.
Ajang urged Christians and Nigerians in general to reject evil, citing several biblical verses in his plea. He added that by doing so, they would be able to enter God’s kingdom.
The bishop also urged Nigerians to use the gifts that God has given them to advance national development and peace.
In addition, he counseled Nigerians to avoid crime in general and cyberspace in particular for young people.
People used to do Yahoo in secret, but many now take pride in performing Yahoo in public.
The bishop counseled, “Young people must desist from all forms of crime, that way our society will be better.”
The bishop gave the deputy governor his word that he would support his principal in managing state issues and that he would pray constantly for God’s direction.
In his remarks, Akabe stated that he organized the event as a way to give appreciation to God for allowing him and his family to survive.
We are grateful to God for a multitude of blessings, including the protection of my family’s life and mine.
He remarked, “We thank God for protecting our leaders, including my principal, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, the President, and his vice.
The state’s populace was asked by the deputy governor to pray and back the current federal and state governments.
In addition to calling on the state’s citizens to live in harmony and peace, Akabe said that the government had taken proactive measures to combat hunger and poverty in the nation.
The Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly, Mr. Danladi Jatau, expressed gratitude to God for allowing Akabe and his family to survive.
He also exhorted the people of the state to pray and help Governor Sule succeed.
Now that elections and legal disputes have concluded, governance is required. Let’s all keep up our prayers and help Governor Sule achieve success.
“Your prayers and support are all we need,” he stated.
Recall that among the dignitaries in attendance were Dr. John Mamman, the state’s commissioner of education, Rep. Jonathan Gaza, who represents the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency, and Mr. Muhammad Oyanki, the deputy speaker of the state assembly.
