The Ivory Coast’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) top scorer Emilio Nsue has been suspended indefinitely by the football organization of his nation.
The Equatoguinean federation (Feguifut) claims that the Equatorial Guinea striker engaged in “several episodes of serious indiscipline” at the AFCON 2023.
Equatorial Guinea was eliminated in the round of sixteen despite Nsue, 34, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals in four games. He was in Abidjan on Sunday to collect the golden boot after Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria in the championship match.
But Nsue is not the only player who has come under fire from the nation’s football authorities. Iban Salvador, another player, has also been suspended. According to Feguifut, the 28-year-old midfielder for National Thunder was involved in a “unpleasant incident” in Abidjan on January 29, the day following the team’s elimination from the competition.
Equatorial Guinea left the Afcon 2023 after losing 1-0 to Guinea, capping an amazing group stage run.
