In a fresh attack on Saturday, March 30, ADF rebels targeted the community of Ndimo on National Road #4, which is located in the Irumu (Ituri) area. Eight civilians were murdered and approximately ten more were injured.
The total number of individuals killed by the ADF in the Walese Vonkutu chiefdom in just three days now stands at sixteen.
Residents of Ndimo were taken aback by intense fire on Saturday morning from the same rebels in the Ndimokoto district, as they were still grieving over the deaths of four people—among them, a FARDC soldier—during the night of Thursday and Friday by the ADF.
Locals at the nearby Bundingili groupement in Zunguluka claim that three children and four other persons were slain by another ADF group.
Human rights activists in this region claim that after destroying twelve houses, the rebels kidnapped fifteen individuals in order to transport the plunder.
They express their dismay at the sharp rise in ADF attacks in Walese Vonkutu chiefdom, which they claim have resulted in man deaths in the last three days, even though joint FARDC-UPDF forces are present and are conducting the so-called “Ushuja” operation on the Komanda-Luna axis on national route 4.
The spokesperson for Ushuja operations could not be reached by Radio Okapi, the source.
