On Saturday, April 13, the MONUSCO contingent from Bangladesh freed five hostages who were held by the Zaire armed group in Bayoo, within the Djugu region.
A woman, two kids, and two men who are Lendu village members are among the freed hostages.
On April 5, during an attack in Dyamba, in the Djugu area, they were taken hostage by the Zaire armed organization.
These five individuals suffered from severe health effects after being held captive in the jungle for two weeks.
The UN Mission supplied the ex-hostages with logistical support as they were escorted back to their various communities after they were freed from captivity and received free medical care from the Bangladeshi component of MONUSCO.
Sources close to MONUSCO claim that the Bangladeshi contingent started nearly a week of negotiations between the communities, which resulted in this release.
The problem was peacefully resolved as a result of these discussions with the local authorities.
To ease the stress brought on by the hostage-taking, the peacekeepers had also set up day and night patrols in the area.
The CODECO militants made multiple fruitless attempts to use force to release these hostages.
